New publication on sex-biased gene expression in Daphnia galeata

27.10.2016

Daphnia galeata is a species of freshwater crustacean that is often used as a model system in ecology. The species alternates between sexual and asexual reproduction and lacks sex chromosomes. In a new paper, Huylmans et al. sequenced the expressed genes of Daphnia galeata and assembled the first transcriptome of this species. The data were also used to identify genes that were expressed differently between males and females.
